When you want more
than a taxi!
Door County Green Bay Shuttle began in 2002. Legend has it that Rose Hawkins began this service in 1994 and sold it about one-and-a half years later to Scott Richrath after falling in love with one of her taxi customers and running off to get married. Scott operated the business on a part-time basis for about five years until he and his bride moved to Denver, Colorado. He sold the service to Don Shusta in April of 2002. Don had previous experience as a taxi driver in Appleton, Stevens Point and Green Bay, and was also employed for a time in the motor coach department of Lamers Bus Lines, giving him a wide range of experience in the industry plus extensive knowledge of the physical layout of these urban areas.
The business has been expanding ever since. A new mini-van was added almost immediately, and a 20-passenger mini-bus was acquired in August of 2003. This expansion has allowed for the addition of mini-tours of Door County and wedding events to the service's previous repertoire.
Seeing a need for additional taxi service to the Sturgeon Bay area, and capitalizing on prior experience in the taxi industry, Don became a licensed taxi operator in September of 2003. That year the company showed a 35% increase in sales. Continued dedication to customer service, and the acquisition of experienced drivers led to a 58% increase in sales in 2004.
In the interest of finding other unique forms of transportation and further expanding services, in February of 2005 a 1974 Checker Aerobus was located and purchased. This 12-passenger 8-door station wagon has made a nice addition to the fleet and has won the admiration of several satisfied customers as well as awards in certain local parades. This past year another Checker (this time a 1977 Marathon taxicab) was added to the fleet. This eye-catching vehicle (it's green and tan with the distinctive checkerboard pattern running the length of the car) has turned a lot of heads in town since it was put into service and some customers make special requests to be picked up in this unique vehicle.
In 2006, Don's wife, Jan, joined the company as office manager and has helped Don in developing a website (Doorcountygreenbayshuttle.com) and in expediting some of the processes and procedures involved in running the business.
In 2010, the Shuttle part of the business was sold to Linda Brunette, one of the shuttle drivers who had been working with Don and Jan since 2008. She assumed the fleet of shuttle vehicles and is the current owner of Door County Green Bay Shuttle, LLC. Many of the shuttle fleet vehicles were updated to newer models.
In 2012, The Taxi part of the business was purchased by long-time taxi driver, Jim Hoffman.
For shuttle-related reservations, calls can be made directly to Linda Brunette at 920-256-1812.
Through hard work and commitment, this company's goal is to continue growth by providing the best customer service available and establishing solid relationships with businesses and individuals who might need these services.
